MEHDI HOSSEINI

Bio

Mehdi Hosseini (b. 1943, Kashan) is an Iranian painter whose paintings span between figuration and abstraction. He studied at the Tehran School of Fine Arts, subsequently receiving his BFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1969) and his MFA from Pratt Institute, New York (1971). He later taught at the University of Art in Tehran, retiring on a professorship in the 2010s. Since his first solo show in 1974 at Tehran Gallery, Hosseini has shown his work widely in Iran. His drawings express timeless, tragic human situations, with figures lost in fluid, metaphysical spaces. His paintings, however, focus on fragments of everyday life and the objects that shape our surroundings.
